Didya see the part with two guys flying along on trapeze on a small cat when the outrigger breaks and they fall in? Yeah well happened to me and a bud. We were both in traps, both standing on the outer edge of a H-18 wing when a weld failed. Which in turn caused us to fail. In a big way.
The last segment was from a cruise ship caught in a serious storm.. no apparent motion from the fixed camera, but clearly no one considered anchoring all the fixtures and people and furniture sliding about as the ship rolled..
We once saw the Taconite (a well known PNW Boeing built local yacht) try to dock in a strong crosswind at Ganges, Saltspring Is. While no real damage was done, they did not do a very good job controlling her and she hit the dock hard enough to explode all six fenders - POP-POP-POP... before finally stopping forward motion only 30 feet or so from the fully loaded transient dock across the gap. Got everyone's attention.
Two days ago I was out single handing with the wind coming from dead behind when I tried to dock the boat. Lets just say Im glad no one had a camera! It was a harrowing 45 seconds.
Ditto. When I saw that little sailboat getting pushed up under the pier, my first thought was, "That's something I can see happening to me." Talk about a first-class suck-fest. That's one of those nightmares that seems to run in slow motion and just won't end.
I pulled a "first-rate stupid" move of my own a few weeks ago. But I can say that most of my real learning experiences came from being humbled and this one was no different.
Gotta love Bill Dance bloopers, even if they are staged.
