How do you get your fix when the snow is flying

1 Attachment(s)
Last year I made the switch from a power boat to a sail boat and couldnt be happier. The only thing I am struggling with now is the lack of boating for an extended period of time. I use to be able to start my season in march and end in late november or even later. The private dock I used with my fishing boat can't accommodate a sailboat and the marinas here in Buffalo, N.Y. kick us out October 15 and dont let us back in until May 15. I think I have already watched every sailing video on youtube. Now what do I do to get my fix. Please give me some ideas on how to cope with 7 months of no sailing before I go crazy.

It never s**ws and you can sail all winter. Okay, once in the late eighties I saw s**w in Florida, but it didn't stick to the ground. I almost had to move south!
Oh, and no state income tax.
(By the way, my condolences, that is a HORRIBLE picture!!!!)
Just saying.

Go skiing
Go back country skiing
Visit some place warm
Work on the boat
etc. etc.....

Heck I was just out sailing for an overnight at Jewell Island last week...... But, plenty of fun stuff to do for 5 months....

Read Sailnet and look for stories of other people sailing in places where snow is a rare thing and year-round sailing is the norm :)

Just got back from listening to a really bad band, mixed up a Green Coconut Margaretta, checked the posts, and realzed that in Marathon this time of year you mght need to turn on the fan in order to have a comfortable nights sleep. ;) Get the Hell out of NY, put up the sails and come to the lower Florida keys - the weather's great.

Cheers,

Gary

You might want to join a local club and take a class? Skate, Hike, Ski. Ice boats are a dim memory. They are fastest sail craft I have seen. I was child and grew up west of you in Erie Pa. You live in the land of ice and snow. Regards, Lou

Even though it's 14 hours from me, I've climbed and camped on Mt Washington about 7 times.....in the winter as well. I'll be there next month as a matter of fact.

Also IIRC you aren't actually allowed to camp on the mtn itself except for Hermit lake shelters. Didn't think you were permitted to just pitch a tent anywhere.
