A pioneer has crossed the bar

Jan Gougeon, one of the founders of West System epoxy and a naval architect and sailor of the first order, has passed away.

Fair winds, Jan, and thanks for the fine work. You will be missed.

Quite the major contributor to boats and boating.. that's for sure. Sad news.

Re: A pioneer has crossed the bar

Its funny. I read Jones'' post and thought oh yeah, big deal, some businessman has died.

Then I read the bio. Hope I've done as much when they throw me overboard.

A full life, one well spent, even if it was fairly short.

Re: A pioneer has crossed the bar

A big loss to all sailors and especially boatbuilders. He was truly influential. I have a first edition of their book and the brothers are all quite young in it - really illustrates the passage of time.

I, myself, personally intend to continue being outspoken and opinionated, intolerant of all fanatics, fools and ignoramuses, deeply suspicious of all those who have "found the answer" and on my bad days, downright rude.
