Naming Winter Storms

I would just like to say for the record that I think it is cheezy and sensationalistic that the Weather Channel is naming winter storms. We had to shut down the clinic at our hospital yesterday, but, that is nothing compared to named tropical storms.

It is but it's also indicative of our oh-so-dramatic culture. The culture of the US is now dominated by timid, frightened, attention seeking, housewives with too little to do........and the emasculated males who behave like them.

I guess it does help to keep track of them, but the "Blizzard of 12" works even better. Are we even going to remember when "Draco" was?

Hopefully it won't catch on and it will be dropped after a dhort time.

Even the National Weather Service doesn't agree either..

Doesn't this affect insurance coverage. I think I can get my boat hauled for free if a named storm is forecast for my area. ;-)

Depends upon your policy but the bottom line is it is the names of storms that are listed by the National Weather Service NOT by the TWC

For named tropical storms, an insurance company won't give you a new policy if your "in the box". I'd be pretty livid if they tried pulling that with a named winter storm.

sfman... agreed with your first sentence 100%, then you shot your whole argument down with your followup sexist comment. Wow... just wow!!

As for my two cents... I not only think it's a product of our sensationalist culture, but also a product of the marketing that pervades all parts of our life. Weather is big business for sure. Gone are the days of the weatherman telling us temp, wind, etc. They try to make everything into a story that will get more viewers and thus more ad dollars. Sad, but I guess they are just playing the game like everyone else. Sports has been playing the ad revenue game for quite a few decades now.
