What year is this boat

We believe this is a Person Commander.

The puzzle is that the HIN does not match what the boat is supposed to be.

Jeff are you there?

Re: What year is this boat

"...797"... built in 1979 (79) July (7)? Best guess.. but kinda seems too recent.... Doesn't look like a factory marking either... built too early for an official HIN and somebody applied for one in '79??

Re: What year is this boat

That HIN # doesn't look right to me...not professionally made.

Doesn't Pearson hull ID numbers start with PEA?

Re: What year is this boat

Could be someone etched the Massachusetts state numbers, which begin with "MS", into the hull, and may have added some numbers at the end. It's not a documentation number, which would stand to reason if she was state-numbered.

I would believe the builder's plate would give you the age, and the Pearson folks should tell you if you ask.

Klutz way to do it: Look at the porcelain head. Sometimes there's a stamping date there, boat's probably no more than a year or two younger than that.

Re: What year is this boat

My 1978 Pearson starts with PEA. It also has "factory" molded serial numbers. That doesn't look factory to me either.

Re: What year is this boat

The Columbia Owners Group has a lot of the boats listed in serial order with build dates as well.

Perhaps a Pearson group has something similar which would allow you to narrow it down at least.

The attachment would indicate somewhere around '64.

Re: What year is this boat

MSZ is the code for home built Massachusetts.

So someone must have had a hard time registering it some time back.

Jeff-h says that Pearson started each year with a new hundred series.
That would make this boat's production the third year it was made.
He told me what year they started so when he shows up on this forum I'm sure he will remind me again.

HIN numbers didn't become mandatory until, I think, 1972.
