HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! 2013 Plans!

Hello to all here that have given me some amazing advice. I want to thank everyone for helping me go from a terrified of the ocean newbie to a confident and somewhat competent sailor. 2013 looks to be a good year, the boat is in perfect shape and I'm planning a number of extended cruises including some overnight and multi day trips. I kick things off this month with a Catalina sail! Looking forward to sharing my experiences with you guys...life is short get out there and sail! If any SoCal sailors have any great sailing locations I'm open for some suggestions...I am planning a San Diego trip, and a few Catalina trips...

Did you mean the new "New Year Resolution"?
I didn't make New Year Resolution for years becasue it never work out. But this year is different, I have made one and hope it will stick until 2014.

1. Eat more
2. Do less exercise
3. Gain more Body WT.

I think it will work out better for life at seas.
a. Heavy body is less likely to get blow off from the boat.
b. Better up wind performance, can balance the boat better
c. The body can wedge in the companion way for more secure stance.
d. No need to wear PDF, fat floats better than bone.
e. No worry about hypothermia, the body is well insulated
f. If food is running out at sea, the body still have plenty of reserve of Calories.

Re: HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! 2013 Plans!

Hey Newport Newbie good to hear that your gaining confidence. I used to live in Newport and one of the best weekend trips I heard and saw people do was - when the weather was warm and there's not much swell - to sail south to Laguna beach and just anchor out for a night. Some people choose Emerald bay cove or in front of Main beach. Either way because of the scenery you feel like you're away from it all and can just look at beachgoers and mansions on the cliffs. Bring a snorkel or something, it seems like it'd be great way to chill out without needing to go very far. I will say to steer wide of any reefs.
Maybe a good idea if you want to practice over-nighters before committing to Catalina Island.
I'd go along side with my boat if I hadn't moved it to Redondo.
