Re: okeechobee waterway fl

I haven't been there recently myself, but the Salty Southeast Cruiser's Net always has good info and updates from foplks who have been there (and everywhere else along the eastern US coast). This a great resource for cruisers and cruise planning.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District is in charge of the Okeechobee Waterway.

Re: okeechobee waterway fl

I'm about to start researching the Okeechobee waterway. Are there stats listed anywhere that show the number of draw bridges, average depth, etc. from Fort Myers to Stuart?

Re: okeechobee waterway fl

We were in Ft. Myers and was thinking about coming thru the water way about a month ago but was told they were having problems with one of the locks and it was not do'able so we came south around Fl. I'm not sure if the problems been fixed or not. I also no the depths have been shallow due to no rain for a while.

Re: okeechobee waterway fl

Looks like it's open and passable. But I haven't found any data on the water depth in the Caloosahatchee & St. Lucie rivers.

Re: okeechobee waterway fl

If I'm reading this correctly, then I would be ok to navigate the OWW with 4' draft.

Re: okeechobee waterway fl

We just brought our 30' Hunter to Glades from the east. No problems there.

Lake Okeechobee Lake Stage

OWW Mile: 55.0

Reported By: Ted Stehle (WG Staff)

This morning the stage is 14.20 feet providing a navigation depth for Route 1 of 8.14 feet and for Route 2 (Rim) 6.34 feet. As long as the stage is above 12.5 the locks will operate on demand.

For the Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District website for additional Lake Okeechobee information click here.

From todays post on Waterway Guide. Route 1 is the route that crosses the lake directly as opposed to the southern rim route. The lowest bridge is 49 feet just east of Port Mayaca lock. I did the round trip last March and found it quite enjoyable... a different type of Florida scenery.
