Look at these fascinating pictures of a huge dust storm taken in north-western Australia.

Impressive! i didn't think australia had dust storms like that. I've been thru 2 of them. Looked just like that! One in Egypt and one in Saudi. People don't realize the high winds that usually come with it as well. I'd hate to be on a boat when it happens.

that is truely impressive. Didn't realize something like that could travel across an ocean. I would have thought the water and it's associated dampness would have caused the dust to fall out of suspension

Wow the guy with the baby does not seem concerned in the least! Looks like he is more worried about his next beer! But there are some really cool photos.

Maybe not usually that visually impressive (it is powered by a cyclone after all) but, yes, lots of them and far too many to speak of all bundled under the term "willy-willy" or "williwaw" depending upon which part of the country you come from.

We get "tornados" too.. a bit smaller than seen in the USA, but they'll still rip your roof off. The most impressive (and nasty!) weather phenomenon to happen out back are "fire devils". Imagine a tornado of fire from the ground to the sky...

Perth?? Nice!...

I doubt you'd get anything like this in Perth itself - you'd need to be several hundred miles further north - but you might warn him that the sharks in Perth just love the taste of Americans. :D
