You could also see how wide packing tape is and use that for a measure.

I tried that formula and came up with 5'4" +/-. Add the hull draft and we would make the 7'6".

I have always had deep draft, responsive and reasonably quick upwind boats. This boat is shoal draft (5'9") and it is great off the wind but a dog going to weather. She will not carry a chute at 110 degrees in 18 knots. She needs a viagra keel.
I am tired of shallow water. I want the boat for DEEP water which requires all the keel I can find.
My old 36 had a 6'4" draft and it was very agile and able

Around me, shallow is if the depth guage reads, which is less than 600', most of the time it does not read but three dash's! i'd be worried about draft because why?!?!? if you are ove 10'deep most of the time, you would have 3' below you.....away you go!
