Estimate the length of this keel

Can anyone make a reasonable estimate of this keels length?
Maybe the photo on the pallet will help. Are the pallets a stock length?

Re: Estimate the length of this keel

Is that a standard work table back there? The average height of a counter is 36". That is offset from the table, so it's tough to tell exactly, but it appears to me that it would be slightly less than the height of table. So, I'd put it somewhere between 2.5' and 3' (or 30-36").

Re: Estimate the length of this keel

Greyhound,

Pallets are not a standard size, well they are standardized, but there are about 50 different standard sizes, so I don't think that helps much. And I don't see anything in that photo that can be used as a reference measure, the perspective is off for everything else. Do you have any more photos?

Grey,

I work in auto factory and agree with the others on the pallets, but there is not one in pic. He is right that those tables should be about 36 inches tall, so it must be a little longer. Hope this helps.

Re: Estimate the length of this keel

With this keel installed the boat will draw a total of 7'6". The keel itself hanging from the chains looks short to me which is why I ask. Oh well it arrives in two weeks and i will find out.

Re: Estimate the length of this keel

Is there a bulb on the bottom to be bolted on at your place? if so, add a foot for that, 4'ish feet for the main length, 2' of hull in the water, now you are at 7' or so for total draft. My swag on the what I see any how.

Re: Estimate the length of this keel

The pallets might not be standard but I am pretty sure they used dimensional lumber. That means the horizontals are 1x4 or something, so about 0.75" thick. That should allow you to get a rough measure.
