ridding bilge of sewage odor

Macerator broke, pumped fair amount of bad stuff in bilge. Yard flushing with bleach. Help. What else works. :(

White vinegar.
Raritan's "K.O."
Ventilate well.

There is a simple 4-step solution to your problem:
  1. Put boat on Craigslist
  2. Bake fresh bread aboard before prospective purchasers view.
  3. Sell the boat
  4. Get a new boat

Seriously: I hope you find a way to get rid of the smell.

Many charter boat operators swear by Toilet Duck in this situation.

Clothespins and add some water to the bulge then add some Raritan CP bowl cleaner let stand for a couple of days. Leave all bedding and cushions out of the boat until the clothespins are no longer needed.

After initial cleanup... use tomato sauce... spread around where the smell is... this is the natural way to remove even skunk smells... but don't leave it on too long as tomato sauce has mild acidity... then use Lysol disinfectant cleaners... should be fine afterwards.

Re: ridding bilge of sewage odor

might I suggest using the washing detergent they use for dirty overalls

it is dead cheap and seems to get rid of any smells I have ever had on my boat

Simple Green solved the problem for me. Cleaned the bilge with bleach water and Dawn dish detergent first, then followed up with Simple Green. No odor since.

Re: ridding bilge of sewage odor

after it's flushed out an ozone generator will remove any remaining odor.
