Our Sailing Adventure

In 2014 we plan to set out for sunnier skies, warmer weather, and whiter sand. On the adventure will be my son, his step mom (my wife) myself, and two Alaskan Malamutes.

Here is our Blog, detailing our preparations, plans, trials and tribulations:

I welcome any feedback, thoughts, or any opportunity to benefit from the tremendous experience that roams this site!

Re: Our Sailing Adventure

You might want to reconsider taking the Alaskan Malamutes to the tropics. They may not be able to tolerate the heat. I know huskies do not do well and the Alaskan Malamutes have an even heavier coat.

Re: Our Sailing Adventure

Capta,
May I ask your source on the Husky feedback, whether it's personal or more rumor? I've heard varrying stories on that, but the most reliable source I've heard was that their coats help insulate against warmth as well as they do cold. So it's something I'd really like to better understand. One loves the water, the other will swim. Plus, they are like family. They came to us by necessity. Both were abandoned. So bringing wasn't part of our ideal plan, but will have to happen. But it weighs heavy on us. They do however seem to prefer fair weather over cold.

Everyone's Gotta Have a Dream

No pictures of the Malamutes?
They can be fairly big dogs.
I have read of some folks cruising with Newfoundlands.
Keep those puppies hydrated.

Re: Our Sailing Adventure

Sorry Caleb... I'll try to get their pic up! One is larger, but both are small by Malamute standards. Both are not typical mal's
