Hi All,

It is almost time to start up the Great Lakes Marine Mobile Net again for the summer of 2013.
The first net will be at 08:30 am Eastern on Saturday 06 April 2013.

This year we will have some exciting additional features to play with during the nets.
We are adding a brand new HF Remote server here in the shack.
Several other HF Remote servers are available to us around the Great Lakes this time around.
Note: At least a General Ham Radio licence is required to operate on the Ham HF bands.

Also new is the use of the Echolink APP for Iphone and Android phones from your boat.
With this APP you will be able to contact the net control officers directly in their shacks on Echolink/IRLP.
The range for 3G and 4G on the Lakes is about 3 to 5 miles offshore by testing.
Note: At least a Technician Ham licence is required.

The Skype APP for Iphone and Android will also come in handy this year.
You can contact KC9SGV Great Lakes Marine Mobile Net on Skype directly in the shack.
Note: No radio licence is required for this.

The GLMMNet time will be at 08:30 Eastern on weekend mornings throughout the summer.

We are still finalizing the HF frequencies.
These will most likely be in the 40 and 20 M bands.

All information will be on our website at GLMMNet HF Remote Station | Great Lakes Marine Mobile Net/Great Lakes MM Net

Thanks for the info. Will I be able to listen in on my Sony 7600GR?

Looks like your nice radio has SSB (Single Side band).

If so, yes it will receive us great on LSB (40M) and USB (20M) with an external antenna.

Very cool! I didn't know about the net, so now it adds extra incentive to get my Ham license.

The new amateur radio club aboard the Columbia Yacht Club (K9CYC) in Chicago will certainly participate from time to time! If any Chicagoland mariners wish to explore amateur radio, feel free to reach out to us for assistance. You can view our profile on QRZ dot com by searching for our callsign.
