180% headsail question
Someone here must use one, so do you sheet your 180 inside your lifelines, or outside? It seems like inside it would make seeing forward a PITA. A 150 is bad enough I think.

re: 180% headsail question
Unless you have a split pulpit/lifeline arrangement sheeting outside is going to put some strain on the lifelines and stanchions as the sail is forced over and down again. This is esp true if it's an old 'deck sweeper' headsail.

Sheeting inside will be cleaner, but requires someone going forward to 'skirt' the sail back inside as it will tend to blow outside on the tack and usually hang up on the first stanchion. I don't think the visibility issue is much different either way if the sail is fully sheeted in for upwind work.

Good Gooly man...I hope the weight is like 3oz or less otherwise thats a heavy ass sail for light winds. Both the 155 and 180 will sufficiently block your view.:confused:

re: 180% headsail question
With a 180% genoa, your view is not going to be very different, inside or outside. If you're going upwind, sheeting outside is going to reduce your heading by at least 10, without increasing speed very much, if at all. Any other questions?

re: 180% headsail question
Thanks guys, I was just wondering, as a 180 is sheeted to the quarter, and the track is of little use. The biggest thing I carry is a 150, and I STILL NEED THE GYM FOR THAT, HA, HA.

re: 180% headsail question
Years ago we had a '180'... it was a hanked on dacron (very light) genoa. I think we tried it once, and it never came out of the bag again - and the bag never made it back on the boat... not a real practical sail these days.
