Good sailing related doctumentary

Just saw a documentary on Smithsonian channel called Shackleton's Frozen Hell. Documents an Antarctic exploration gone awry and the heroic escape on open life boats in the Southern ocean. I just caught it randomly flipping channels but thought some of you might find it interesting.

Thanks for the heads up. Will record that. We watch the Smithsonian channel often. Great programs.

His voyage was just recently reenacted for the third time. Why, I have no idea.

In the harsh marine environment, something is always in need of repair. Margaritas fix everything.

Re: Good sailing related doctumentary

Yeah it sounds like Worsley knew it was a terrible idea in the first place given the conditions but went anyway following Shackleton's orders. Amazing they all survived. I definitely would not want to re enact that! But some serious sailing skills displayed. Worsley kept them off a lee shore on South Georgia island in a 20 foot sailing life boat...during hurricane conditions. This same storm sunk a nearby 500 ton steam ship delivering coal to South Georgia. He also navigated them mainly using dead reckoning 800 miles in the southern ocean in winter. Pretty amazing stuff.
