Re: Carnival-- again?!

Things happen in threes they say. Carnival should be golden after this one.

Well, the passengers can't say that they weren't forewarned.

Who would ever want to go on a cruise anyway?

I'll bet you'll have some really great bargains on Carnival over the next couple of years.

Re: Carnival-- again?!

Perhaps Carnival has some deep systemic problems.

Remember its far worse than just a few mechanical problems. They own Costa Concordia too! So its 36 dead PLUS mechanical problems.

When there's rot at the top it really does infiltrate down many, many levels.

I guess I don't look at a cruise ship as a boat. I see it as akin to being trapped inside a hotel with thousands of other people, with a few opportunities to be herded like cattle to shore into touristy money pits.

Of course, I am blindly casting judgment.
SloopJonB and Seaduction like this.

Re: Carnival-- again?!

I received an email in the past week or so stating that I could arrange for a "memorable cruise on a Carnival ship" as an incentive for my team... It did not say whether this should be pitched as the carrot, or a stick.

I wanted to reply to ask if they were serious. Instead I just deleted it....

Re: Carnival-- again?!

One of the old James Bond stories had a great line, 'once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, three times is enemy action'. If it happens again would make you wonder about their preventative maintenance programs.

BTW, my wife likes cruises and also suggested we do a circumnavigation. They are quite different experiences. It would be interesting to take a cruise on one of the really fancy ships like Seabourn, but not happening at those prices.

Finished the circumnavigation in early February in Grenada. Have to work on a book project for the next several months so the boat will be waiting for next year.

Re: Carnival-- again?!

And now they're reporting that the Carnival Legend, based at the port of Tampa, is having problems. The good news for the people on that ship is that things aren't too bad, and they are coming back to Tampa under their own power, but slowly and will have to skip a couple of scheduled stops.

Wow. No way this is all just coincidence. Carnival definitely has some sort of systemic problem.
