We need to get some charts for the Great Loop and looking for feed back on the different charts, why you like them or why you don't. Thanks

Re: Great Loop Charts

Joellen,

For the inland rivers, the only paper charts are the USACOE ones. They take a little getting used to, but are useful. You can download many of these off the net, and/or buy hard copy versions. We bought hard copy for everything except the Cumberland River stretch from the Ohio to Grand Rivers, KY. Not cheap, but they worked.

For the rest of the trip, we found the MapTech products to be handy. When coupled with decent cruising guides (Dozier's, Skipper Bob's, etc.) they tell you pretty much everything you need to know.

If you intend on doing any long hops (like from Mobile to Key West, or longer near- or off-shore runs up the Atlantic coastline) you will probably want to invest in suitably sized single sheet charts as well.
