What's deal with the Liability Ins for Countries in Meds

Working with the Captain/owner for a trip to visit the countries in Mediterranean Sea in May, he got into problems of getting liability Insurance. For examples:

1. Italy requires $6.5MM liability, but companies will not issue just liability alone.
2. Some companies require hull out and a new survey before talking
3. No company willing to touch except a few in UK.

Does anyone have any insights how to navigate this Insurance maze?

Many thanks.

Re: What's deal with the Liability Ins for Countries in Meds

All the EU requiremens are the same, and each vessle must have it when they clear in first. So one country can't say they have different requirements.

To make it a little more difficult they require the coverage to be listed in the form they want and in the language of the first county you clear into.

Fortunately the insurance companies know this and push a button on the computer and its spat out in correct format.

More fortunately.... Some cruisers may have been cleared in without said insurance . Sssssshhhhhhhhhh!

Yes, sure. I'll spill the beans the moment I've finished the desert of double strawberries and cream and ice cream.....

Would photoshop and a nice printer have anything to do with getting cleared in?
I'm not advocating making a fake insurance certificate, buttttttttttttttttt.............

Photoshop, ROFL. But sadly a lot of people are impressed by "paper" with no idea how easily it is faked. In the US, some states still use cheap paper auto insurance ID cards, while others have them "bar" coded and can scan and query into a database to make sure the paper really means something. Marinas? ROFL.

"Sure, what color would you like that?"

Dawg, you might try Al Golden at IMIS. They're old fashioned pros in the highest meaning of the word and if they can't set up what you need, they'll tell you who can. And if somebody quotes less, the odds are they can tell you why and what is different about the coverage. 1-800-541-4647

Check out yachtline. Online quote and Med wide coverage offered.

N.B. Big diff if you are 'commercial'. Check the small print very carefully.

Talk to Pantaenius, they will issue liability alone.
