Got this from Geotimes - October 2004 - Super waves sink ships. No idea how accurate this statement is, or how accurate the article is. "Last year" would have been 2008, I think. So, 187 "ships" smaller than 100 meters in length were lost, presumably in 2008. No idea how many of these were sailboats, or rowboats for that matter.

Thanks for all your info. From some of the sites I have been looking at I can't help but wonder if it one is not safer being caught in a storm at sea then it is driving down the Interstate.
