Rum

It looks like we are going to have to start making rum our choice of drink now that we are sailors. What is your favorite rum? What is your favorite rum drink?

Re: Rum

I like Bacardi (yes really) 8 year for my sipping rum. It's not very spiced but I like tasting the oak barrels and not vanilla flavoring....

I like "The Kraken" for the bottle (and it tastes pretty good)

I like Cruzan for the value (sorta)

BTW, what do you mean by mixing? Do you mean an ice cube?

I have a sauna on my boat, therefore I win.

Re: Rum

Not a rum connoisseur, but we came to really enjoy the rums from the Caribbean that were made from sugar cane directly rather than molasses. The French are promoting a system like the 'Appelation Contrôlée' system for wine for these rums.

Heading back to Lake Ontario for this summer. Ainia is back in North America for the first time since 2010. Currently in Long Island Sound.

Re: Rum

We don't drink rum, but I have won a bottle of it every New Years Day for taking part in our clubs annual Rum Race.
As a result there is always free rum on board or boat.

We have three rules;
No screaming.
No bleeding on the sails.
No slobbering on the charts.

What's wrong with you?

Don't you know sailors drink Rum? if we let them drink milk or water what would happen to tradition?

Why do you think your club delivers a RUM bottle instead of a juice bottle? Try better ones till you start to like it. At least give it a serious try in the name of tradition

regards

Paulo

Re: Rum

I gave it a serious try for many years, haha.
The club gives out Lambs so hence the free rum.
Some of the worlds most competitive racers drink milk at the end of a very famous race.

Re: Rum

I Like Pussers. Mount Gay. Bacardi Select Dark. Cruzan Dark... but honestly the smoothest, best/strongest dark rum is Goslings Black Seal. It's a Bermuda Rum. I've been to the facility... just a great company. Sip it over ice... or if you have to mix it, do so with Coke Zero (no seriously) because it's VERY sweet, using coke is too strong, diet coke is OK (or better lime diet coke).

Or you can go traditional, and make a "Dark and Stormy." Using Ginger beer, and Black seal rum.

Black Seal® | Gosling's Rum

If you make a fresh ingredient Pina Colada with goslings it'll look terrible, but taste awesome. Probably the best island drink I had was sitting in Grotto Bay, eating a Mahi Mahi Burger, sipping a Pina made with Goslings (and I am not a big Pina Colada fan, but that was a helluva - yep - breakfast).

PS: Asking a sailor what is the best Rum, is like asking who has the best boat. Oh and that is a clear bottle, the rum is THAT dark.
MMR and rugosa like this.

"Rum Line" an S2 7.9 - cheap, fast, trailerable, and paid for.
