Re: I Need Ideas

How about this approach. here's what we did on Haleakula

Radar Pole on the stern with all you antennae/ stern light on a hoop , radar, engine hoist incorporated. It also can serve as a detachable engine hoist ( Check out the Garhauer System. You could also incorporate a wind generator on top of the radar.

For the solar a set of Garhauer davits on the stern keeps the windage down and the panels unshaded . You have the added advantage of having the davit usage when in port and not passage making.

None of this affects the traveler or the aesthetic lines of the fine looking boat.

Re: I Need Ideas

I'm going through the photo's on the yahoo site. I don't want to say anything negative about anyone's boat, and I hope that no one takes offense, but this look is what I'm hoping to avoid.

I think that this setup doesn't do the boat justice from a purely aesthetic standpoint.

I feel bad for posting this.

I consider myself 'Larry the cable guy kinda sailor' but even I could not do that to my boat... this dude should just be honest and get a bigger boat...

This is a little more like what I'm envisioning. I wish I could find a profile shot.

Much better example.

Yes, that looks neat and practical. But where is the traveler?

That nice picture looks like an aft-cockpit like mine. Attached picture is the stern rail on my boat. The line tied up to the stern is for the traveler. You can see one part is attached to a half-ring on the rail and the other attachment would be on the end of the boom. The photos I've seen for aft-cockpits can be this way or a different way where the line attaches to points on either side of the tiller either on the aft-cabin top or maybe closer to the toe-rail.

Re: I Need Ideas

The solar panels mounted between two stanchions might work out since some Nor'sea owners carry a porta_bote strapped there. Porta-bote inward, panels outside, no additional wind-age.

Solar stick for the panels? I think there's a thread around here somewhere....

I've seen a couple installations of people using a single pole and having an attachment that allows for adjustments as needed. That would be a good consideration too.
