European trailer sailer search...

Hi,

I'm looking to buy myself a second hand trailer sailer that would be appropriate for 2 adults and 2 children.

Please note I'm based in France, so I'm looking for boats that are readily available in Europe.

My initial research led me to consider boats such as the First 21.7 or the Maxus 21. These boats would be ideal in terms of what I'd like to do (weekend sailing, the occasional week of coastal navigation if the family are up for it), however they're just a bit too big for towing easily. I don't have a 4x4 and I can't justify investing in one. Also, the slipways available on the south coast of France aren't really ideal for such things, especially for the First 21 since the keel isn't fully retractable.

Compromise accepted, I've started to look at smaller boats that would obviously have a more restricted usage (no more week long dreams). Day boats such as the Ikone JS look like they'd be a lot of fun, either by myself or with the family, and they're far more transportable that the boats above. However, I'm really struggling to find any older boats based on similar design principles. Can anybody suggest models to look at that would exist in the 2nd hand market for up to €10,000?

Depending upon the newness you want of a boat, Jeanneau has had some TS boats thru the years. Not sure what beneteau has had thru the years either. THere should be some true TS style boats with actual CB's and the need for very little water per say to float them off a trailer. You might also look for a trailer that has an extendable tongue, as that makes it easier to launch this style of boat also. My parents had a trailer like this for the 21'cb model we had.

Hi Marti,

I'm sure there must be such boats, but i'm really struggling to find out what they are. I've just discovered the Globe 530.4 which looks interesting....

I would not started that way. I would look for boats between 5 and 8m on the main European brokers and from there I would look at what is inside the budget, what I like and then would try to get information on the boat.
