Yacht Hardstand Victoria BC

Hi All

I plan to move to Victoria Canada in the coming months. I'm finalising the Visa now.
When i arrive I plan to purchase an older lower cost yacht and explore the coast a little. Older boats (all boats) have issues and require haulout.
No amount of googleing or looking on maps has helped me locate a boatyard in Victoria. Where do people go when they want to haul their boat out?

Thanks

Westport, Canoe Cove if they replace the lift that ended up in the drink on Monday, Van Isle Marina, all three in Sidney. Used to be a lift at Oak Bay but that's out of action too. CFSA has one, but you need to be a member (forces/ex-forces). Royal Vic has a crane but don't know what the limit is on it.

Thanks Paul.

Most of those are in Sydney.
I had not really thought of Sydney. More google maps has shown me the sydney is not all the far away. Could you tell me how long commute would be after work from central victoria to say westport sydney? it looks like 25kms or so. But I can tell you 25kms can be a long way here in Auckland NZ sometimes.

20 to 25 minutes, 30 if you hit real bad rushhour.

Lots of people live in Victoria and moor in Sidney, easy access to the Gulf Islands. 20-25 minutes journey, straight up the Pat Bay highway. Watch out for the filth hiding in bushes with hairdriers though.

I didn't know you had "rush hour" on the island!

We live in Victoria and moor in Sidney. We are out at our boat all the time.
Our best time from home to the boat is 18 minutes but that's on a Sunday morning and you have to hit all the lights green.
And yes Victoria has a huge traffic problem. Everything from Sooke road to the Malahat to the Pat Bay highway are plugged solid everyday. The Pat Bay has a ferry that will come in and dump 500 odd cars on the road every other hour or so.
It's not as bad as Vancouver but it is getting worse every year.

It's really not THAT bad going to Sidney. I agree that traffic going to the western communities and up the Malahat is a huge problem but not the traffic to Sidney. Re the ferry dumping cars - time your trip home accordingly (easy to do because it is pretty much a scheduled event).
Tthere is no comparison with Vancouver traffic .... none....nada .... shouldn't even use the two places in the same sentence except maybe when refering to western communities rush hour trafic.
BTW, I don't think there are any yards in Victoria although maybe something could be arranged in Esquimalt but expect to find a premium price if you can find a close location.
