Anyone have any advise what to look out the first leg voyage?
I have committed this first leg voyage as the captain to sail a Japanese made Mariner 40 with the owner plus other. She is 40 yo boat but fully refitted.
I have studied the pilot charts, other sources decently well plus the weather pattern in last few days. Last trip (three weeks ago) to Colon, Panama was fun and yet boring, but it was the most smooth sailing I have ever had. I think my luck will eventually runs out.
If you have the first personal experience in the trip, please share with me. I am preparing for surprise, but some early warning is always good.
We have arranged for our local crossing agent. Hopefully this will reduce the wait time from 2 weeks to 2-3 days. My wife will act as a go-between to coordinate with the agent. My hope is to cross the canal ASAP.
I read, think, and act independently; I don't come here to win a popular contest, nor I am here for free sex. I come here to learn, be challenged and be inspired in the art of safe off-shore passage. I am NOT afraid of dying in the sea, but I am afraid of dying in a nursing home and burdening those who I love.
I am old school; doing the right even when no one is watching is important to me.
