Inventor of the Swim Platform

Seen below, Sir Ernest Shackleton's barquentine Endurance lies dying in the ice. Could that be the first swim platform, on her stern? Hum....

Don't know much of his swim platform. I do want to know the man - his leadership and ability to keep his words are most admirable.
