I have heard a number of horror stories about that Bow fitting.. hmmm I might look into a SS one that a company up here manufactures.. I wonder about re-enforcing the fitting there? hmm anyway.. Best of luck.

If you do part it out.. i could be very interested in the bimini if its still serviceable?

Grampian 26

Hi Bob, The bow fitting is a must repacement if you are to have cofindence in the boat. I failed to address the fitting, it failed and the boat was totaled. I sold the hull with the bimini. The purchaser is intending to re-rig the boat. Here is a pic of "Destiny", the name she was given when first purchased in 1970.

Well good luck to him.. bummer for me.. Bimini would have been nice.. Some of the stuff you put on a boat like this gets hard to justify when it costs 25% of the value of the boat.

I am hoping to have a furling unit, and I am going to look into this bow plate. See how much I can get one for.

A ubolt just seems nasty looking, I have seen a boat fitted with one when they replaced the plate.. but eh.. looks BAD.. Mine overall (the plate) is not in the best of shape..though not at the forestay mount point.. but I guess I need to look into something.. maybe grind the ridge off.. and put the u-bolt through the plate - that would be strong.

Hi, I live in Ohio would you consider selling the bimini and do you have a spare mainsail or did your only one go over the side? I'm in the process of restoring a '74 Grampian 26 and hope to have it sailable and in the water by this summer.

Hey this is Jackie, I'm the current owner of Destiny. Picked it up from a guy named Andrew. Seems like he did quite a bit of work. Even got a new mast, boom, furling, and sails. Getting ready to get all new standing rigging. It's quite a project, since the mast is from a different boat, I have to somehow figure out how to get the measurements accurate, at least for the shrouds.
The mast is from a 33', cut and rewelded to be the same height as the standard mast. The spreaders are different than g26, so it's been kind of a headache coming up with ideas for getting the wire cut to the right size.

It's a great boat though. I've been living on it, anchored in ICW, for the last 2 months.

Good luck Jacky I was the one who bought the boat from tom and sold it to Andrew. She was a great little boat for me, that I motored across the inland lake, and lived on for about 7 months. She is a Super solid little boat, and I hope you are able to get her sailing again. P.s. the mast that I sold with her to Anders was off a 33 morgan it was too long, so I had it cut to size, a sleeve from the cut out section put in and tack welded back together. Any way I feel this mast is still is way to large "heavy" for this boat. you are better off scraping this mast and finding one that is smaller. I miss that little boat, and wish you the best of luck with her. p.s. if you have any questions, I would be glad to answer. also, have you got the rudder back on?

Yeah, so how about an update on Destiny in my care. I should be documenting this monster of a project.

I cut the mast to pieces and scrapped the aluminum. I would have never felt easy about a re-welded aluminum mast. And yeah, the thing would have compressed the entire cabin; it was huge. That, coupled with how the original step was still in place, and not a new step for the new mast, and how I lost my job around that time, brought the project to a halt.

I just happened to be anchored next to another Grampian 26, and befriended its owner. I eventually worked enough odd jobs to buy the other Grampian, which of course came with its own set of projects. But over the last 6 months I have been slowly parting out Destiny to build up s.v Witch of the Waste, which I have renamed. It was another totaled G26, but I have been able to salvage it because of Destiny.

The rudder fell off, which I made a thread about. I am having a stainless steel rudder made for it, as well as a new SS bow fitting of my own design.

I have those pictures of Destiny from the first page of this thread printed out and hanging on my wall at home. She was gorgeous.

Destiny is currently a pleasant liveaboard with a few amenities collecting barnacles in the ICW.

Hello! I have recently acquired a G26, 1968, hull #27. She is in decent condish. I was trying to adjust the shrouds because the mast appears to be leaning to starboard but the lowers seem to be all out of whack- the uppers seem ok and well balanced, but the lowers either need to be replaced, or switched. Do they stretch? can I just buy an approximate length of wire and adjust and use the Hayne Hi Mod compression fitting? How tight should they be? The turnbuckles and threads all look and function ok, so do the fore and backstay. If anyone has any information concerning the G26 shrouds, I would love to hear from you! Thanks for reading
