Re: Galveston to Lousianna ICW

A bit more info .... what time of year? how long a trip? how far into LA? round-trip? would be helpful.

There's not what I would call many "cool" places. Also, just before the Calcesieu River, there's a 50' clearance lift bridge that requires 4 hour advance notice (if you can't fit under). There's a couple of nice anchorages, but once you're past Beaumont, and then Lake Charles, it's small towns until New Orleans.

Lake Charles, Avery island. Chandeluer islands. Mississippi delta. Lake ponchartran, New Orleans waterfront. Not so many good stopping spots inbetween Galveston, and N.O.

Are you planning offshore, or the ICW? I have a 23' that I would like to take down there this summer.

When are you planning to go?

Would you like a buddy boat? (a slow one?). I've done that section of ICW in a power boat, (my mainship).

Don't know where they went.

Star Island, after crossing Lake Sabine (going east) is a nice anchorage. Turning into the Mermatau River to the north is another good one.
