H31 Prop Strut Hull Cracks
I've got what looks like stress cracks in the hull around the base of the prop strut. From the inside of the hull things are dry. There are some very slight cracks around some of the periphery of the mount, but the strut itself is not loose and doesn't have any play in it. Cutlass bearing is good, no significant play.
Side view, outside:
Rear view, outside:
No binding on the prop shaft, which leads me to believe there's no significant misalignment.
From the outside it certainly looks like it's seen some "bodywork" before. I'm figuring that I need to dig out all around that crack, clean it out, check it out and then refill it with...?
Suggestions welcome and needed!
Re: H31 Prop Strut Hull Cracks
Looks like it would be good to dig out the old filler on the bottom and refill it with new "kitty hair" and resin. inside I'd most likely have it ground, epoxy coated, add cloth. and more epoxy. Possibly even add a bronze or stainless plate or angle iron to reduce the sideways flex. the cause could have been line wrap or debris getting hit by the prop.
