This is just on the edge of thinking it is a troll.

Plenty of folks are adventurous, but basic common sense would question being in a small sailboat in the Northeast in Jan, particularly as a novice.

If not a troll, then the trip should obviously be done in warmer weather. Buy a book on or google navigating the intracoastal waterway and study it all winter.

Hmmm...I just bought a revolver and I'm thinking of playing Russian Roulette, am I crazy?

Nuts... Have your lost your mind. Recommend trucking it down. That is a crazy trip even for that boat even if you had a 30 day weather window!

NY to FL

Best to wait til spring......and take the ICW. In Jan. parts of the ICW can be frozen.

best time to sail ny to florida

I am wanting to know best time of year to sail my 28.5 hunter from ny to florida

I'd probably wait until between the 3rd week of January and the 3rd week of February. You really want to wait for the major snowfalls to hit and the temps to drop. Plus, half the excitement of sailing is when a Nor'Easter hits and the waves kick up and the wind howls, right?

Ok.....the above posted statement is purely sarcasm displayed. It is not intended for consumption. I just found it whimsical that a never-before sailor is looking to sail his new-to-him boat all the way down the East coast of the U.S., so I tho't sarcasm was the best response.

If you're really asking; then get a professional to sail this boat for you or consider having it trucked down or something. We just had a thread similar to this where the unlucky captain's boat is now lying on the bottom of the Atlantic. Please make the safe decision.

May or June. All other warm months are hurricane threats. It will take you a long time, with or without professional assistance. You would not be able of get out of the way in time if you pulled the short straw.
