Greece is one of the most popular bareboating areas in the world, but, there are many areas to choose from. In the
Ionian Islands you feel like Odysseus on his Odyssey. For me the Southern Ionians were extra special. The passage from Corfu to the Southern Island group offers a great 2 week bareboat charter, as special to me as my trips to
Croatia.
I’ve also sailed in the
Sporades in the Aegean with the highlight being a playful Mediterranean monk seal in Pattiri (Alonnisos) harbor and sailing the same waters where the Greeks held off the Persian fleet to buy the famous 300 time at Thermopylae. Oh, and it's also rumored to be the departure point for Achilles voyage to Troy. We sailed out of Milna on the Volos Gulf, but, recommend bareboat chartering from the Island of Skiathos if possible.
