Greetings

Good Morning All,

I just signed up, having been reading SailNet since I was in high school (2004-2008).

I'm in the Detroit metro area, currently sail Thistles, Cal 25s, Beneteau 36.7, and anything else I can get a ride on. Looking to get into some cruising, one of my friends is buying a Beneteau First 38 to liveaboard and he wants to do some Great Lakes cruising on it.

Other interests include the fiancee (wedding is in October, and she LOVES sailing almost as much as I do), kayaking and pretty much doing anything outdoors.

Hoping to learn from the forums and just increase my sailing knowledge, I guess... I mean I'm not a beginner or anything, I've been sailing my whole life, but I can always learn.

Cheers,
Joe

Re: Greetings

Thanks, I'm trying...

I guess more info on my sailing background wouldn't be a bad thing... My dad had a Thistle, so that's what I learned to sail on. Grew up sailing on some J/22s, J/24s and Olson 30s at our local club on Wednesday nights. Went to college and sailing intercollegiately in dinghies and small keelboats. Got to do some big boat racing as well, on a J/44 and J/120. Miscellaneous sailing was Sunfish, Flying Scots and IC-24s. Moved to Michigan last year and have been doing Thistle, Cal 25 and Beneteaul 36.7 racing so far.

I really enjoy racing, but I really don't like how frustrating it can get. My fiancee is wonderful and loves sailing, but she isn't too enthralled with racing. In fact, she doesn't really like racing, mostly because we do Thistle racing together which is pretty competitive around here. So we're going to be doing more relaxed sailing together, while I get my racing fix on other people's boats.
