Cat Dreamer

Hello all,
I've posted in a few threads but thought I'd introduce myself. I've been interested in sailing for many many years. I used to buy sailing magazines and get sailing how-to books from the library decades before ever setting foot on a sailboat. I read the Bumfuzzle blog all the way through. Twice. That's mostly where I got it into my head that a catamaran was for me.
A bit over a year ago I took the plunge and signed up for sailing lessons. Passed the classes and did a little bit of sailing. I've bare boat chartered 5 boats 30-31 foot.
I grew up on a farm doing lots of maintenance on equipment and learned to weld w/ both gas and arc.
Then went off to the military and learned avionics nav and com systems.
Then switched to medical electronics as a BMET, bio-monitors, x-ray etc.
Hobbies over the years included Scuba, woodworking, photography, rock climbing, et. al.
I've also remodeled my own and family's houses doing electrical, plumbing, windows, doors, networking and so on.
I think I can probably do most of the sailboat maintenance and repairs that pop up.

Re: Cat Dreamer

Neo, I've noticed several of your posts, which is why is puzzled me when I saw your intro here.. you've left (at least me) with the impression that you've been doing this a while.

It DOES sound like you know what you are looking for. You've already taken the step that is repeated here so often it's almost visceral in reaction from long time posters here, that is "try tons of other peoples boats then you'll know what you like." You've obviously done that. Sounds like your next step is to nail down one of your own, and sail the bottom (ammas?) off of it (them?)!

Well, I have almost no experience with boat maintenance and repair. I'm drawing on experience from more than 40 years of general maintenance and repair on all sorts of other things. A diesel in a tractor isn't all that different from a diesel in a boat with the exception of the cooling system and final drive.

I think I do I think I want a catamaran because of thing I've read... I've never actually been on one.
