new to sailing

Hello all,

I got bit by the bug earlier this year so I'm fairly new to sailing but eager to learn. I am reading up, watching youtube and I have the asa books on order from amazon.

I considered taking the ASA classes in order to learn the ropes but I am leaning towards studying the asa books in my own time, buying my own boat and have an instructor teach me on said boat in order to get the hands on knowledge needed. I found an ASA instructor willing to do this and it seems like I could get plenty of hands on experience over a couple of days.

Look forward to hearing from you all,

pete

Re: new to sailing

Welcome! Are you near an active marina? When you get your boat, there are lots of experienced people who don't have boats, but enjoy getting out on the water. Find them and then pick.their.brains (as long as you know they don't scream and brandish winch handles like Harry in that Mutiny Story...).

Have fun :-)
