Louisiana to Port Aransas-Offshore in January?

Just curious if anyone has sailed offshore from Louisiana to Texas in the winter months? Specifically in January, if so how was the trip and and any suggestions. We have taken the GCICW before and really want to avoid going that way again if possible. We have a 33.5 Hunter newly rigged, new sails etc we haven't had much offshore experience the past 10 years.

Where in Louisiana are you starting from?

Trying to avoid New Orleans so probably Venice. Currently we are in Mobile the plan is to cruise around Pensacola, Biloxi, Gulfport and such for most of December then head to Port A to meet up with friends for Feb and March. Then thinking of heading south to Mexico for an undetermined amount of time then do a Gulf crossing to the Keys.
