Welcome! Try adding your location to your profile. Once folks get to know you, you might be able to score some rides.

Re: Newbie want to learn to sail

Nobie,

Welcome to the asylum! Great bunch of girls and guys here. Lots of information . . . and some of is even helpful!

Piece of advice. As a newbie, I'd suggest a trailer sailor rather than jumping into a big girl and all her baggage. Pick up a copy of The Complete Trailer Sailor by Brian Gilbert (or something like it). It can help you understand all sorts of sailory things but most important, he includes a section in the back the has all sorts of specs, drawings, photos, pros and cons for about 50 trailerable boats in the 15 to 28 foot range. It can help you to decide what is important and what is not, what you can live without and what you never knew you always wanted. Read, watch some DVDs, take a class if you have the cash but be sure (are you listening?) be sure to take a class on sailing and seamanship. Your local power squadron puts them on. Knowing the COLREGS or at least, having a copy and knowing when and where to look, will keep you out of trouble and off YouTube. Other than that, what are waiting for? Get out there!
