New to it...

Hey all! My name is Dave and I am just starting out on the long term project of becoming a bluewater captian.
At this moment I am a looong way out, as the last time I sailed was for my sailing merit badge in Boy Scouts. :-)
However the sea has always called to me and I am at a point in my life where I can start making this transition.
Any advice anyone can give me on where to go for more information is welcome.
At this point I still need to evaluate what I need...and what I don't know, (which I am sure is volumes) not just about the science of sailing itself, but about the gear, the culture, the laws and everything else.
Going from a landlocked computer geek in colorado, to a free-sailing adventurer is going to be a long task, but I am ready to start.
Thanks for reading...looking forward to meeting you all!

Welcome aboard! SailingDog will be along soon with a link to some guidelines for successful posting.

This is a good place to learn lots.

Thanks all! I guess my first step is getting some formal training. I have started making inquiry into the Los Angeles based 'Bluewater Sailing' company's "Basic Keelboat" classes.
