1000 Weekends

Once, in our early days, Mary came across me daydreaming over a pile of Practical Boat Owner mags. " I'd sail off with you in one of them," she said. "You'd be good at that sort of thing."
We were young and poor with two small children - so it wasn't a possibility. But I put it in the little box marked Complimentary Things She Has Said About Me, next to that much bigger box . . .

Last autumn an old university friend re-lit the sailing passion, with a call to crew for him on the Costa Brava. [ Jof - your safe passage to the Happy Isles is assured by this single solitary act. ] This spring we celebrated our 30th. wedding anniversary in Bonifacio, Corsica - after a series of 14-hour sails in late-winter winds. Alarmed and exhausted, astonished and exhilarated - we were both smitten.
So here we are - barely 9 months later, the draughty mansion in the south of France up for sale - ready for a brutal down-sizing exercise. We plan to take our ArtHoliday.com away from its courtyards and barns, gardens and pool - and cram it all into a boat - ArtHolidayAfloat.
And, being feckless grasshoppers with not a bean put aside for graceful senility, we'll be looking for advice from the kindly people here on how to live frugally and work effectively on board - given that we may only have One Thousand Weekends Left.

Welcome Richard and Mary. Good attitude. I expect if you can survive the downsizing you'll do just fine. I look forward to hearing more from you.
