Hello all, my name is Carl.
I've read the books, watched the
videos, asked the forums, and I finally took my first real step toward my sailing goals. Also been following the Simon saga and can't be happier for him and at the same time antsy to be in his shoes.
I've taken the advice of some of you fine (um, using that term with a grain of salt
) sailors here and I'm going the OPB route until I can get bills paid off and a kitty built up. For me it looks to be about a 10 year plan to finally cast off. (wow, sounds like a long time)
I met a great old salt that took me under his wings. He's advancing in age so I'm happy to be his strong back and helped with getting his boat ready and in the water. The boat is a 1978 27' Catalina named Hockey Puck. Sounds like a silly name at first but there's a story behind it. He's been playing hockey all his life, at 79 he's still playing. Anyway, long story short, we've been out a couple of times now so I got my feet wet and I'm stoked to learn all I can.
A little about me; I'm a retired Navy Chief so all you brothers and sisters out there drop me a
line. Started on my second career which I'm happy to say, leaves me lots of time to get out on the water, weather and OPB schedules permitting. Downside, I'm now living in Lansing, Michigan. Just a bit landlocked

Anyone in this area want to take me out
(WILL WORK FOR SAILING) I'm willing and able. I'm already driving 100 miles each way to work and sail on Hockey Puck so distance in the Great Lakes area isn't really a problem yet (god willing gas $ don't run-amok)
