match 61

GOODAY , I'm Maurice from Oak Bay Victoria BC. Just purchased a 28 ft. Windward sloop, inboard Volvo Penta 23 hp. diesel. Will be cruising Georgia
Straights, Gulf Islands and the San Juans this summer. What is considered
usefull life in hours of this type diesel, in this case extremely well maintained,
with almost mint appearance. ???? Would appreciate your knowlede and/or
experience. Thanks.

Welcome Match...useful life of a well maintained diesel could be in the neighborhood of 10-15000 hours. You might need a rebuild along the way, but as you seem to know...they will go forever if well cared for.

No longer posting. Reach me by PM!

Diesel life

Thanks Comeraderie. This is very helpfull, it has 1600 hours on it, so I guess I should have little worry for some time. Thanks so much. Maurice

Welcome, Match! Nice to see another BC'er on the board.

Your W 28 is a decent coastal cruiser that should give you many enjoyable years in our cruising paradise (the last few weeks excepted)...

Welcome, Match61! I have a friend with that same motor, and she has had no real trouble with it. Naturally, she maintains it well, and isn't afraid to get her hands dirty.
