Teen Dinghy Sailor!

Hi!

My name is Alex and I am 17 years old.

I have been sailing since I was 12 on dinghies and yachts as well as racing on both.

On dinghies, I sail on the Welsh Harp, which is a huge resevoir in North London, UK and I do the Saturday Club race series in GP14s. For those of you who don't know what a GP14 is, it is an acronym for General Purpose 14ft which has a spinnaker. I won the crewing 1st place cup and helming 3rd place cup this series, which I am very proud of.

My helm and I also do the regional South East and Midlands GP14 races, where usually come top 5.

I also sail at school in the docklands, where we have sailed Wayfairers, Bosuns, Topaz Omegas, 420s and Laser Picos. We do races against other schools and we usually always win.

My yachting experience is less, but I did a one day yacht charter in Greece (sun sail), followed by 12 days in Croatia (where we were fighting force 7 winds) and 4 days in the Isle of Wight on a youth course organised by the Royal Yacht Squadron (organisers of Cowes Week), where we did race training.

I have also started up my own sailing website (which you can see in my signature), which I very much enjoy doing and keeps me thinking about sailing all the time as well as the fact with me doing A-level physics and learning about aerodynamics.

On the topic of my studies, I plan on doing aeronautical engineering at Southampton, where I can stay close to the see and hopefully do lots more tidal sailing as well as doing more yachting.

Well thats all I can think of at the moment, thanks for reading!

Best Regards,
Alex

Good for you Alex and compliments on your site. Aero is tough row to hoe but well worth it. Just be grateful you don't have to rely on a slide rule!

Cheers--
