Hello, everybody.

I've been sailing, on and off, for a few years, but not much recently, and none of it cruising. My wife and I owned a Flying Scot for four years while we lived near the Potomac River. I'm a little overwhelmed by the differences between the day sailor and cruising boats, but am encouraged by the shared wealth of experience I've found by searching past posts.

After the FS, we moved down displacement to sea kayaks, mostly haunting marshes. Now it may be time to move up a bit to something with a head.

Here we are 160 miles inland near San Antonio, Texas, now retired twice (military and corporate), and am looking for a new focus. There isn't much cruising capability near here until we get to the Gulf Coast, a 160 miles south. Still, this location isn't necessarily permanent, and it's never too early to start to plan, right?

You've already given me a lot to think about. Thanks.

Welcome to Sailnet!

Your post brings back memories of sailing Flying Scots on the Potomac as well. They are a great boat for that area.

Best of luck as you consider your options.

Hi Jay,

Don't let the "160 miles" put a damper on things.
My wife and I live in upstate NY, for the last 13 years we have kept our boats in Mystic CT. 149 miles away.
In season, we are on our way to the boat almost every Friday afternoon.

Chris
