New Boat - First Question

Ahoy everyone! We have a new (to us) 1985 Bristol 41. We have a roller furling mast which sings out loud & clear during just the right winds...sort of like the sound you get from blowing into a bottle times 100. Anyone have a similiar problem? We welcome all advice on how to curb this noise?

I had a boat with in mast roller furling. There is a solution that I think is called a "flute stopper." This is specially made canvas (see your sailmaker) that is hauled up on a halyard and blocks the opening in the mast. Obviously, remove before sailing.

Usually, the singing only happens when the wind is from behind the boat. So docks, or moorings where adverse current can cause this condition are the worst.

Good luck!
