Mirilla is on a distinguished road
Newbie in need of guidance

Hello I have NO interest in sailing but my beloved, largely computer-illiterate, 61-year old sister has. She's been thru cancer and divorce such that finally, finally is she going to try to fulfill a long-held dream: to sail. While she is not without experience, yet rather than try for her own small boat (the risks attendant to which scare me, frankly,) she would love to crew or tag along for a fee or join with a few other women somehow. Her real passion is Mother Nature, a keen desire quiet time at anchor in inlets and such.

Can anyone provide us direction? We live in the Pacific Northwest but I am certain Jolynn would be up for adventure anywhere. Is there a forum out there for this kind of thing perhaps?

Thank you much.

Post in the crew wanted section. Seek out local sailors (waterfront bar?). Buy a used sailing dinghy (not one too light or racy for us middle aged folk) and a "learn to sail" book. The same way she learned everything else in life: study and practice, learn from others. Make it happen, we all did.
It's a wonderful thing, sailing.

Thank you

Thank you, Wandering Star. I note reference to Sea Sense Boating elsewhere and that they teach here in the PNW. That too will merit looking into.

jrd22 will become famous soon enough
I think there is a group in Seattle called something like Single Sailors. She might check that out, not sure if it's just a dating service or really a sailing club. We are hosting a "Sail with Courtney" at Spencer Spit on Lopez Island august 28th, she is welcome to come and go daysailing (if there is any wind). You might also get a copy of 48 North mag at any boat store and look for crew wanted, clubs, etc.
