Offshore cruiser with a trailerable boat

Hi. My name is Stan. I am planning to cruise offshore with my 27 foot Coronado. I bought a trailer for it and plan to put a tabernacle on the mast, to allow dropping the mast for trailering. Also plan on re-powering with a Yanmar diesel, from the existing OMC 2-cycle sail drive. Plan to take the boat to the Gulf of Mexico and then cruise in the Caribbean. I am located in the Northwest, near Seattle. Would like to hear from others with common interests.

Good small boats can make long voyages with careful skippers. I think the idea of towing it to warm water makes sense. You must have a strong vehicle for that trip. I've towed small boats to sailing grounds on vacation, and once trailered a boat home from a cruise that was interrupted by weather.
