Howdy,

My wife and I are looking at investing in sailing. We have always enjoyed our kayaking and canoeing and recently we have done some of the small time catamaran sailing you can do at resorts for free. That has gotten us thinking why use our arms when the wind will do the work for us :-).

I have a strong grasp on sailing and the way it works, lots of reading on your forums along with other articles.

If you are aware of any Austin area sailing groups let me know!

Welcome! I do not personally know of any groups, but I'm sure there's someone on here that can get you in touch with some. Now that you've done a bunch of reading, you just need to pick yourself up a small boat and go sail!

With all due respect, if you use the word "invest' in the same sentence with the word "sailing", then you clearly do not have a strong grasp on sailing and the way it works. Jus say'n

And the Doc has it right, buy a small, used, responsive sloop and go sailing, read more and take lessons if in doubt once you've actually done it a while. I don't know anything about Austin.

Jeff

I suppose the appropriate word would be Commit, I am only 25 so when I said invest I have a lot of years to offer in this investment.

Hey hat - welcome to SN dude. You'll love the place.

If you really want to sail...hit the Austin Yacht Club on Lake Travis on Friday nights. Walk the docks and ask if anyone needs crew for the races. You'll find someone to take you out.

Tell them Smack sent you.

Thanks Smack I'll check that out. I'm looking at a 23' Oday in the area as a nice little starter boat. Can't wait to get some wind under a sail.
