Just finishing cosmetic restoration. Looking to upgrade to a diesel auxilliary.
Greetings, fellow waterfolk! I am anxious awaiting next June(!) already, as this season has so quickly slipped away! I thought I was (just about) done with the restoration of a very pretty 18'7" mahogany/bronze, 1985 Carter Catboat last June. Trailer upgrades, bottom painting and a slightly sprung-at-the-bow below waterline plank - and land related diversions have conspired to keep me from even a nearby lake shake-down.
So, now I'm thinking about tackling a second tier item on my wish list over the winter. The boat currently has a Swedish "Vire 7" 2 cycle auxilliary, which I believe is perfectly adequate - except that its not a diesel, if you know what I mean. I've found a Yanmar 1 GM (no '10' after it) for sale. Since the horsepower is 7, I'm assuming this is a 1GM10 predecessor? 1GM 10's are common in installed in many Catboats of my size and the engine compartments are no larger than mine - and I certainly don't want to have to make mine taller. BUT the dimension listed for this motor say its 31" TALL? The Vire 7 is only about 18" tall. It on auction and I can't confirm this.
Is that another difference between the 1 GM and 1 GM10? Typo?
Many thanks for any light on this subject.
