'Nuther New Guy
Hi Y'all,
As you can see, I've been lurkin' for a month or so.
Two yrs ago my wife and I bought a 1983 Bayfield 29C. We only got to take it out 2 times before I changed jobs and due to extended absences from home, haven't had it back in the water since.
Job situation's back to normal, so I'll be spending the off season getting the boat back into shape and looking forward to doing a lot of sailing next year.
Our intitial impression of the Bayfield is very positive but there are, of course, some personal preference issues to deal with.
We live on the upper end of Chesapeake Bay but I grew up on Lake Ontario. As a kid, I was taught sailing basics by my uncle who grew up in Maine. I've sailed Lake O out to Toronto, my largest boat before the Bayfield being a PY 23. Lyvia (my wife) had never sailed before.
The current plan is to get to know the Bayfield and upgrade our skills to "Coastal Cruiser" status. At that point we'll be looking at a possible Blue Water upgrade in skills and equipment for a sailing retirement.
Lookin' forward to chattin' with ya's.
Otis
