He's teasing. Your question is too basic. There are so many different things that go into the decision. How much boat do you need? How much can you afford? What is your skill level? It's like asking "How fast is a truck?"
But generally, think around 30'. Big enough for comfort and safety, small enough to easily single hand. But you need to learn a lot first.
