My husband and I have decided to sell everything, buy a sailboat, and change our lives. We have a daughter who is 9. We have decided to give the sailing lifestyle at least 1 to 2 years, the idea being to sail around the world,if this lifestyle suits us and our daughter. My hudband is a lifelong sailor,but I am pretty new to this. I have a fearful anticipation of rough sailing. Any advice or anecdotes to prepare me on our journey? What about pirates? one hears alotof stories but is there any truth to them? thanks for any words.

Have no fears. All of the stories might be true, but the gruesome ones are usually rather rare. With good planning, people go around the world without even seeing a stronger gale. There's plenty of cruising families, we've personally spent some time with these s/v Blue Sky who left the shore to be able to spend more time with their kinds.
