What a great discussion forum! Lots of insightful tidbits to find out here.
My wife and I just completed our first year as new boat owners and had a great summer sailing the waters of Newfoundland. I'm quite used to small open boats and speedboats, but not a larger keelboat. So needless to say our learning curve in one season was quite steep. We own a Hughes Northstar 26 and I hope to be putting in many hours and funds upgrading her. Our goal is to sail much of the east and northeast coast of Newfoundland in coming years. We called the boat "Twillick", a local name to a shorebird called the greater yellow legs.

Will certainly keep you posted. We have many interesting things to see and experience along this coastline in the short summer that we usually have. From Whales of many species, seabirds in great abundance and icebergs which can be quite massive, there is always an interesting tale to share. The coastline is rugged and spectacular with numerous bays, inlets and islands. Old resettled communities to rediscover and other fishing communities still active in life on the sea. As I continue to grow in the sport of sailing and cruising, I will share some of what I see and experience on this forum.
